Student Visa – Before Arrival

Exchange/visiting students are basically supposed to obtain a visa from Korean Embassy or Consulate in their home country before departure to Korea.

Basic Required Documents

1. Certificate of Admission(provided by KU)

2. Memorandum of Understanding [MOU]
(provided by students home institution)

3. Certificate of Registration of KU(may vary according to the Korean Embassy or Consulate)

Additional Required Document: Those who have Chinese nationality

Those who have Chinese nationality must obtain the visa from the country where their home institution is located. Documents mentioned below are all provided by students home institution

Notice for Non-US Citizens applying for a Korean Visa in the U.S

1. Visa holder cannot apply if the visa has expired

2. Visa holders who have been in the U.S for less than 2 years can not apply in the U.S.(Temporary visit to other countries during the stay in the U.S. will be not counted as leaving the U.S.)

3. The rules mentioned above may vary depending on the Consulate. Please check the Consulate in your region first.

Alien Registration Card - After Arrival

International students must apply for a residence permit at the Immigration Office of the Korean Government within 90 days from the date of arrival in Korea. When students are registered as an alien, an Alien Registration Card is issued, which is needed in a variety of circumstances. Students are legally obliged to have it on their person. Alien registration should be done at the Immigration Office with jurisdiction for the area in which the applicant lives. Those who stay in Korea more than 90 days without being registered will be considered as illegal aliens and punished by law.

5. Confirmation of Residence

If the contract is not in your name, you must submit the ‘Confirmation of Residence/Accommodation’ additionally

7. Confirmation of Residence/Accommodation
(거주/숙소제공 확인서)

8. Application fee: KRW 30,000

International students may be asked for extra documents depending on their nationality and types of their visa from the consulate office.
