About Visa Extension

For undergraduate students, the ARC is usually valid for 2 years. Students must keep track of the expiration date of their stay, which is indicated on the back the ARC, as they are responsible for extending their period of stay.

ARC extension can be completed either by visiting the Sejongno Immigration Office in person or by applying online. Applications may be submitted starting 4 months before the expiration date.

Since the Immigration Office become especially busy at the beginning of each semester (March and September), students are strongly advised to apply for an extension in advance to avoid crowds and delays in processing.

Visa Extension for Regular Semester Students

Students Enrolled in Regular Semesters

  • General Students: Students who have registered for no more than 8 semesters
    (Department of Architecture: no more than 10 semesters)
  • Transfer Students: Students who have registered for no more than 4 semesters.
    (Department of Architecture: no more than 6 semesters)

Required Documents

4. Application Fee: KRW 60,000 (cash only)

5. Proof of Residency (see below)

6. Certificate of Registration (on the date of application) & Transcript

* The Certificate of Registration and Transcript can be issued at the One-Stop Service Center or via KUPID

7. Financial Statement (Applicable only to students with a GPA below C (2.0))
- KRW 12,600,000 for 6 months / KRW 25,200,000 for 1 year OR
- KRW 6,600,000 for 6 months / KRW 19,200,000 for 1 year with the Confirmation of Registration & Payment

※ The Financial Statement must be issued in par with the student's own bank account in Korea.

8. Tuberculosis Test Certificate (Required only for students from the countries listed below)

- Angola, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Cambodia, China, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, the Republic of Moldova, Russia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe
* If the applicant has not submitted a Tubeculosis Test Certificate since March 2, 2016, resubmission is mandatory.
* Please visit a Community Health Center or a private clinic to obtain the certificate
(It is recommended to contact the institution in advance to confirm whether issuance services are available.)

Required Documents for each Type of Residence

  • On-campus (Dormitory)
    - Confirmation of Residence/Accommodation with signature of the dorm' office
    - Dormitory Payment Receipt
  • Off-campus

    a) Rental Contract under the student's name
    - Copy of the Rental Contract
    - Business Registration Certificate of the Accommodation (required only if the lessor is a corporation/business entity)

    b) Rental Contract not under the student's name
    - Confirmation of Residence/Accommodation
    - Copy of the Rental Contract (under the residence provider's name)
    - Copy of the front and back of the residence provider's ID card

    c) Gosiwon, Hotel, or Guesthouse
    - Confirmation of Residence/Accommodation
    - Business Registration Certificate of the Accommodation
    - Monthly Rent Receipt issued within the last month

    d) Airbnb
    - Confirmation of Residence/Accommodation
    - Copy of the Rental Contract (under the residence provider's name)
    - Copy of the front and back of the residence provider's ID card
    - Airbnb Reservation/Order Confirmation page

Visa Extension Process for Regular Semester Students

You only need to apply either through the Online Application system on HiKorea or by visiting the Sejongno Immigration Office with a reservation.
※ Prior approval from the GSC is not required.

Visa Extension For Extra Semester Student

Who are the students taking EXTRA SEMESTER(S)? (on the date of application)

  • General students: who have registered for 9 semesters or more (Architecture department: 11 semesters or more)
  • Transfer students: who have registered for 5 semesters or more (Architecture department: 7 semesters or more)

※ Not eligible for the students who have completed their required courses and credits(Extra semester for only taking the requirments for graduation is not allowed.)

9. Tuberculosis Test Certificate (required to the students from 19 countries listed below ONLY)

  • One who will take more than 10 credits during a semester: 9,450,000KRW/6 months for extension OR 3,450,000KRW/ 6 months with Confirmation of Registration&Payment for the very semester
  • One who will take less than 10 credits during a semester: 7,450,000KRW/6 months for extension OR 3,450,000KRW/ 6 months with Confirmation of Registration&Payment for the very semester

Visa Extension Process for Extra Semester Students

  • 1. Go to [International Students Petition Application] on KUPID

  • 2. Prepare and submit the required documents

  • 3. Approval of application by GSC

  • 4. Approval of the visa extension and update of the ARC through the Immigration Office

※ Submission in person at the GSC or by email is NOT allowed. Please submit your application through KUPID.

※ Application processing takes AT LEAST 5 BUSINESS DAYS. Please submit your application in advance.
